RECORD CROWDS ENJOY GET UP AND GO FAMILY FUN DAY

Record crowds turned out for our fifth annual Get Up and Go Family Fun Day on Sunday (29/10).

More than 1,000 people attended the day with around 200 people participating in the Spring into Summer Stroll.

Central Goldfields Shire Interim Administrator Mark Davies said perfect sunny spring weather was a great incentive for residents to get out and about on the weekend.

“It was fantastic that a significant, engaged crowd enjoyed a wonderful family day out with Princes Park literally buzzing with active recreation.

“Well done to the Central Goldfields Shire recreation team, partner agencies Victorian Fisheries Authority and Parks Victoria and thank you to the local sporting groups who all played a key role in the success of the day.”

Rex Hunt, Murray (the Murray Cod Mascot), and local walking enthusiast Joan Hartley led the Spring Into Summer Stroll off around the Lake Victoria Walking Track to the delight of the strong participating crowd.

There were 20 different local sport and active recreation organisations involved in the Physical Activity Expo, with many of the groups indicating that they had picked up new participants and members as a result of the day.

Organisations represented included Tennis, Martial Arts, AFL, Little Athletics, Squash, Gymnastics, Triathlon, Soccer, Toy Library, Netball, St John First Aid, Maryborough Rotary, and Goldfields FM 99.1.

The Victorian Fishing Authority also held the sixth and last of their VicFishKids Programs, with ambassador Rex Hunt hosting free fishing clinics on the day, and the first 200 participants registered receiving a free fishing rod and reel.

Members of the public were also intrigued by the skills and interactivity of Team Henderson Circus presenters, and face painting for all the families.

Organised by the Central Goldfields Physical Activity Group, the seventh annual “Hunt for the Golden Shoe” involved all local primary and secondary schools within the Central Goldfields Shire in the first 3 weeks of Term Four.
