Central Goldfields Shire is currently carrying out maintenance on our rural roads.
Unsealed road shoulder grading on the sealed road network is an important element of preventative maintenance. The unsealed shoulders are typically made from the same material as unsealed roads.
Over time, not unlike unsealed roads, the shoulders need regulating. This assists in keeping the sealed edges together and avoid seal edge repairs.
Council owns and operates a specialised road shoulder grader that regulates the unsealed shoulder in a single pass. This is cost effective, as well as being preventative, therefore avoiding extensive edge of seal repairs.
Unsealed roads as well as shoulder maintenance is best achieved when there is moisture in the road pavement. Council staff are taking advantage of the cooler months and are busy grading both sealed road shoulders and unsealed roads.
Unsealed road shoulders on the sealed network that have recently been completed include:
- Landrigan Road
- Stuart Mill Road
- Sections of Cotswald Road
- Sections of Avoca-Bealiba Road
- Commercial Road
- Talbot Road
- Sections of Rodborough Road
- Smeaton Road
- Mooloort-Baringhup Rd
Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said that this time of year is the ideal opportunity maintain the Shire’s roads.
“Following the recent rain, now is the perfect time for us to maintain our road network. The Shire has an extensive network of unsealed roads and it is important for us to maintain their condition,” he said.
