Regional living at its best.
On 26 January I had the honour and pleasure of speaking at Australia Day celebrations at Talbot and Daisy Hill .
A fabulous spread consisting of traditional Aussie BBQ’s was had and I would like to thank Greg McNeily and Bill Robinson respectively, and their many volunteers for putting on a fine day.
The National Anthem was sung proudly and the Affirmation of Citizenship was declared by all.
I wish on behalf of Council and all residents to warmly welcome our six new citizens to our great nation, who made their pledge at our Citizenship Ceremony in Maryborough.
I ‘d also like to add that I believe we are very fortunate to be living in the regions, as we truly live as part of a community. I’m not sure it’s possible to sustain the same degree of genuine community spirit in metropolitan areas.
Speaking of which, our cricket season has recommenced after its summer break and I wish all teams well - especially Talbot!
On Tuesday week the Maryborough Pool Association also holds its final. The team line ups have yet to be confirmed - except Talbot B’s which is now locked into the final.
School is back and I encourage all children to do the best they can and recommend that we all support parents at this hectic time of the year and please, keep an eye on school crossings speed limits and drive with care.
And of course, we all need to keep an eye on bushfire mitigation and take utmost care to protect our community.
