The Central Goldfields Shire will soon be home to an internationally recognised StoryWalk with an official opening for the program to be held next Tuesday, 18 March at 3.45pm.

The new addition to Phillips Gardens is made possible thanks to funding through the Victorian Government’s Healthy Loddon Campaspe initiative.

StoryWalks are a fun and educational activity that place a children’s story (literally a book taken apart!) along a popular walking route in the community. They are a physical activity and a literary experience in one.

The Central Goldfields Shire community is invited to attend the official opening of the Central Goldfields StoryWalk on Tuesday 18 March at 3.45pm.

The launch, which will feature free fruit platters and a drawing competition, will commence at the Maryborough Library before walking the new StoryWalk through Phillips Gardens.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Grace La Vella said the Storywalk would be a wonderful addition to the Phillips Gardens.

“The Central Goldfields StoryWalk is a literacy journey that takes participants on a journey around the Phillips Gardens in Maryborough.

“We’re excited to launch this unique reading experience in Maryborough next Tuesday.

“The project has created an opportunity to combine literacy and physical activity and plays an important role in the overall health and wellbeing of our community.

“Being active is good for our bodies, and reading is good for our brains. The combination of both is a great all-round activity for our health and wellbeing for residents of all ages to enjoy.”
