Immunisation nurses can assess the suitability of vaccines for everyone in our community, from newborns to seniors.

Without the need for referral from General Practitioners there is little or no delay, and in most cases, immunisations can be administered on the spot, once an individual is reviewed by the qualified staff at the Central Goldfields Immunisation Centre.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Councillor Grace La Vella said it was important not to delay immunisations.

“I don’t wait for a GP appointment when I know I’m able to get assessed and access protection from those bugs straight away. This is a fantastic service offered by our Council, and it’s so easy to book the assessment and get the jabs you need on the spot.”

“I just book in on my smartphone, but you can always just call them on your home phone and make a time. Plus, our local staff are so friendly and easy-going, it’s so simple to organise. “

“But don’t let them keep you from getting your lolly after the jab – those lollies are not just for little children! Our seniors have a right to their lolly after a jab too!”

Local General Practitioner Dr Daniel De Villiers from the Clarendon Medical Centre agrees.

“Waiting times for GP appointments should not delay getting protection from serious common illnesses that can cause complications in our seniors’ community.”

“There are qualified staff nurses at the Immunisation Centre who can assess your immunisation needs and provide the vaccines required.”

Coordinator Immunisation Services at Central Goldfields Council Anthea Kofoed said that too many people remain unprotected from preventable diseases, simply because of delays getting an appointment with their GP.

“We understand that in a few cases, people want to speak with their doctor before being immunised for some serious illnesses, but in the vast majority of cases, that’s not necessary.  It is our goal to take care of our community's immunisation needs, freeing up more GP appointments for the serious issues.”

“We have good stocks of protective vaccines for our elderly, our children, and others in the community who may be vulnerable. We encourage our local people to make contact with our Immunisation Centre for a chat - with an assurance that we don’t judge – we just want to keep people healthy.”

“We’ve got everything from meningococcal and HPV vaccine for teenagers, to shingles and flu vaccines for seniors. We have good stocks of Shingrix, M-pox vaccine for those at risk, and even Japanese Encephalitis which is free for those who work in meat production.”

“If your teenager has missed one of the prescribed immunisations for example, we can help.”

“Of course, ensuring that young babies and toddlers are up to date with their immunisations has always been our staple, which is why we are housed in the Goldfields Children’s Centre, but these services are for everyone in the community. I encourage all of our locals to get in contact and get the protection they need straight away.”

Appointments for the Goldfields Family Centre Immunisation Service can be booked online, or you can call 0428 894 724 and make an appointment before Christmas.
