New FEARLESS Exhibition of Tapestries by Flossie Peitsch
Published on 10 September 2024
Everyone is invited to attend the opening of FEARLESS, Central Goldfields Art Gallery’s latest exhibition of tapestries from internationally recognised local artist, Dr Flossie Peitsch at 2pm on Saturday, 14 September.
The artist will talk about her 7 years’ work on display in the Gallery’s Ramp space, followed by an official opening by Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Councillor Liesbeth Long.
Flossie Peitsch is a Canadian born, Maryborough artist whose work has been exhibited around the world. She is also an experienced arts educator and holds a PhD from Victoria University, Melbourne.
FEARLESS consists of 11 series of work comprising a total of 54 individual, brightly coloured tapestries. Central Goldfields Art Gallery and the broader region has a strong tradition of textile-based art and this exhibition by Dr. Peitsch reflects this continuing tradition.
Each series charts her different experiences living in remote parts of Australia, beginning with BABYSTEPS, created during Peitsch’s time in distant Willowra, a 5-hour drive from Alice Springs.
The following series are titled: FLIGHT, SLIPPAGE, STRUGGLE, ARTERIAL, MIMOSA, REPRISE, OBTUSE, OBLIQUE through to RESOLVE, which is the final series created from the artist’s residence in Maryborough, encompassing the entire experience.
This artwork is deeply personal and a reflection on the artist’s experience of unique parts of Australia and communities within those areas.
The exhibition is on display until 16 November 2024. Entry is free, however donations to the Gallery are always appreciated.
