CHECK CONNECTIONS

Australia’s 3G network began progressively switching off this week, from Monday 28 October.

If you have a 3G phone or device, you need to upgrade to a 4G or 5G network to ensure service connection.

To find out if your phone is 4G compatible, SMS '3' to 3498 for an automatic response.

Other devices which may be affected are:

  • medical equipment with real-time monitoring
  • security systems
  • farm monitoring and reporting equipment
  • smart watches
  • devices purchased overseas
  • payment/card reading systems

For advice on how the switch-off might affect you, contact your equipment and connection providers.

ART GALLERY TALK

Join us at Central Goldfields Art Gallery next Wednesday, 6 November at 12 noon for a fascinating insight into the scandal and sensation that was Lola Montez, the most colourful entertainer on the Victorian Goldfields.

Presented in person by Dr David Waldron, Senior Lecturer in History at Federation University, learn the story of how Irish-born Eliza Gilbert built her infamy as an actress, dancer and socialite under the name Montez, touring our region and leaving behind her legacy.

One of the intricate, solid gold pieces on display in our current exhibition The Art of Gold was owned by Montez, now on long term loan from the National Gallery of Australia with support from the Australian Government as part of Sharing the National Collection. It remains a mystery who crafted this amazing piece.

All are welcome and refreshments will be provided. Bookings are essential and tickets are $5. U3A Maryborough members are free. Call 5461 6600 or email: cgsc.art@cgoldshire.vic.gov.au

JOIN IN THE FUN!

Can you spare a day, or even a few hours between Tuesday, 19 November and Sunday, 24 November?

Volunteering at Energy Breakthrough is a fantastic way of making a valuable contribution and real difference in our community. The volunteer team is proudly supported by Community Bank Avoca Maryborough and St Arnaud.

To help make the event memorable, fun and safe for 5,000 students from 100 schools in over 250 teams, we still have roles available for some of the week’s events.

This year we also need volunteers to help promote the event’s ‘waste wise’ message as part of the Waste Education team. This is an opportunity to help guide patrons to sort their waste, reduce landfill and recycle their utensils.
