OPERATIONS UPDATE

YUN00005_straight.talbot.swap.with.lot-6.jpg

Our Open Spaces team is busy keeping up with mowing of our parks, ovals and reserves. There have been preparation works in Talbot this week, due to the Sunday markets on 20 October and “Swap with the Lot” on 27 October.

Drain spraying is complete, with roadside broadleaf weed control and fuel reduction now underway across our Shire.

Our roadside slashing program will be scheduled in coming weeks based on weather, curing rates of grasses and advice from the CFA.

Slashing both reduces the risk of roadside fires and improves driver safety by improving visibility.

Coronation Park toilet facilities have re-opened following repairs and sewer pipe upgrading.

GRASSING UP

With the fire season approaching, our Local Laws team is preparing to send notices to landowners with overgrown areas.

Local Laws officers follow up by checking properties to ensure grass is cut before it becomes a fire hazard. If not, we appoint a contractor to clear the area at the expense of the landowner, in addition to possible fines.

If you come across a property with long grass which presents a fire hazard or is unsightly, you can report it online or phone our Customer Service team on 5461 0610.

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!

Volunteering at Energy Breakthrough is a fantastic way of making a valuable contribution and real difference in our community. The volunteer team is proudly supported by Community Bank Avoca Maryborough and St Arnaud.

To help make the event memorable, fun and safe for 5,000 students from 100 schools in over 250 teams, we still have roles available for some or all of the week’s events.

Match your skills and experience with your own areas of interest such as: judges, marshals, communications, photography, social media content, operations centre, track side entertainment and many more!

This year, we also need volunteers to help promote the event’s ‘waste wise’ message as part of the Waste Education team. This is an opportunity to help guide patrons to sort their waste, reducing landfill and recycling their utensils.
