Weekly update - Friday 21 February 2025
Published on 21 February 2025
The reality is that as a Council – we can’t do everything – but we want to ensure that what we do, matters.
We’re currently developing our Council Plan which sets out the key priorities that Council will focus on over the next four years. It will also help to make sure that our everyday work is aligned with realising the Central Goldfields Shire Community Vision 2031.
For the first time, our Council Plan will also incorporate the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan. This will ensure that improving and promoting our community’s health and wellbeing is at the centre of everything we do.
Our aim is to reach out to as many people as possible – whether you are a business owner, student, farmer, retiree, parent, volunteer – we encourage everyone to use this opportunity to have their say. We also have an activity sheet to encourage children to draw their favourite things to do.
By spending a few minutes, you can help decide where we will focus our resources and efforts to best support our community.

The first round of feedback is invited until Friday 28 March and can be provided via:
In-person drop in sessions -
- Monday 24 March – Maryborough Goldfields Shopping Complex (outside Coles/Kmart): 3.30 to 5.30pm

COUNCIL MEETING
The February Council Meeting will be held on Wednesday 26 February at 6pm.
The agenda is available to view at:
www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/councilmeetings
The meeting will be held in-person at the Maryborough Town Hall and is open to the community to attend.

AERODROME WATER

A reliable piped water supply is now available at Maryborough Aerodrome. The plumbing upgrade replaced failing pipes and tank water supplies which were gravity-fed.
The full pressure mains supply will be more effective for firefighting, also speeding up the process of water bomber refills in case of nearby bushfires.
An added bonus of the upgrade is enabling more businesses to lease and establish operations at our aerodrome with connection to all services.
OPERATIONS REPORT
Roads and Works
New driveways and gutters are now being installed in Frederick Street, Maryborough. Once completed, the old asphalt will be removed and the road will be prepared for a full upgrade.
The road in Whittaker Street will also be resurfaced. Residents may encounter minor delays during works, but out of hours access to properties will be maintained.
We ask for patience as our Roads and Works team progresses this major upgrade.

Unsealed roads
Re-sheeting has been completed on Mount Hooghly-Timor Road in the north. The process restores drainage, smooths the road surface and applies new gravel for improved safety and durability for those travelling around the Bowenvale and Timor areas.
The crew will next start work on Layton Road at Maryborough Cemetery.

Open Spaces
New streetscape trees have been planted along Frost Avenue, Maryborough.
Trees were removed during a complete upgrade of the gutters, driveways and roads, after which the nature strip needed time to settle.
Our Open Spaces team discussed the planting with residents before installing the new trees. Council waters and maintains streetscape plantings until their root systems are established. In a few years they will provide shade along the newly refurbished streetscape.
Requests for new trees on your street are still open. Visit: www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/treesplease or contact Customer Service on 5461 0610.
Closing date for requests is Friday 14 March 2025.

Facilities and Maintenance
- The toilet block next to the Maryborough Community Hub, which has been repeatedly vandalised, will re-open next week between the hours of 7am and 9pm. We are trialing a new security system over the next few months which, if successful, will be rolled out to other facilities around our Shire. QR code signage on the exterior doors will quickly link smartphones to a list of other available facilities.
- All public toilets or public amenities operated by us now include signage inside with a QR code, allowing users to use their phone to report damage or request cleaning at any time. The new reporting system was trialed last year and proved very successful at speeding up repairs and urgent cleaning requests.
LEASE PROPOSAL
Council advises of its intention to lease an area in Craigie to the Riding for the Disabled Association of Victoria.
This will provide a longer-term solution to the Association, which needs to move from its current location at Johnson Street, Maryborough.
For further information, see official notice in this publication.
