COMPOST EXPANSION
Our optional green waste bin service commenced in 2013 and now has 2000 participating households.
As a bonus for signing up to the service, bags of compost processed from our Carisbrook facility are offered to participants free of charge, when available.
To increase supply of the high-quality compost, the facilities are being upgraded. During the works, compost production will be paused. New material should be available from mid-February.
The major upgrade to increase compost production is funded by a grant of $340,840 through Sustainability Victoria’s Circular Economy Councils Fund and our co-contribution of $87,000.
EXHIBITION LAUNCH
Join us for the official exhibition opening of In Solitude - Photographs by Ian Kemp tomorrow at 2pm, Saturday 23 November at Central Goldfields Art Gallery, Neill Street, Maryborough. The exhibition will be opened by Central Goldfields Shire Interim CEO Sally Jones.
Light refreshments will be served and entry is free. No booking is required.
From still life to portrait studies, all Ian Kemp’s photographs explore the idea of being ‘in solitude’, and the associated transience of human life.
The exhibition is open until 2 February 2025.
WATER WORKS
Central Highlands Water (CHW) are upgrading water mains at the corner of Burns and Nolan streets, Maryborough until January 2025.
Water supply to surrounding houses will be unaffected, as CHW has arranged piped bypass supply to each property following a consultation process with residents in partnership with their contractor, Interflow.
Works will take place each weekday between 7am and 7pm, with occasional work outside these hours for safety or technical reasons.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised of disruption to footpaths and roadways around the junction, with traffic controllers managing the area.
For everyone’s safety, please follow the direction of the controllers and adhere to reduced speed limits. Your patience is greatly appreciated as this infrastructure is upgraded.
For further information contact Interflow on 5442 4144. In case of faults or an emergency, contact Central Highlands Water’s 24-hour service on freecall 1800 061 514.

EVENTFUL WEEK
Although our Operations team is busy with Energy Breakthrough, they’re still taking care of business around our Shire.
Maintenance grading took place on a section of Middle Road, Betley, picked up by our Asset Inspector as needing immediate attention.
The Roads and Works team also graded Dermoudy Road, Dunolly, along a section from Dunolly-Rheola Road to our Shire boundary. New pipes were installed to upgrade the drainage system.
Our Maintenance team have commenced work on the Carisbrook Lions Building, including repairing external walls, weatherboards and painting. Completion is expected in the new year.
ROADSIDE SLASHING
Contractors have commenced roadside slashing several weeks early thanks to favourable conditions.
Starting in Talbot, crews will then move north to Bealiba and Dunnolly then circle back south.
We’ll provide regular updates as crews move across our Shire.
