BLOOMING ALGAE

The increased water testing of Lake Victoria at Princes Park, Maryborough continues to show unsafe levels of blue-green algae, following dryer than usual weather and low water levels.

Direct contact with affected water can cause skin rashes, eye, ear and nose irritation and if swallowed, vomiting or gastro. Seek medical or veterinary advice if you or your pets show symptoms.

Lake water should not be used for drinking, cooking or washing – boiling does not make water safe. Food from the Lake should not be eaten.

Please note that sprinkler systems in the park do not use Lake water. We’ll keep the community updated.

For further information, or to report algae-related issues, contact our Environmental Health Team on 5461 0610.

OPERATIONS

Dunolly-Avoca.rd.alice.jpg

Road reconstruction

Dunolly- Avoca Road is coming along nicely!

For the past three weeks our Roads and Works crew have been fully reconstructing just over 900 metres of sealed road at Mt Hooghly. This will improve safety for all road users - especially locals who use the road frequently.

Works will continue into early May. Please remember to obey all road work signals and slow to 40km/h as directed.

New signs

bealiba.reservoir.jpg

Our Open Spaces team has been busy replacing signage around our Shire.

Several signs around Bealiba were upgraded last week, to help tourists find their way to popular camping spots around its reservoir – just in time for the long weekends!

If you see damaged signs along any of our roads, be sure to let us know by visiting:

www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/Report-A-Problem

A street looks so much better with new gutters! The Roads and Works crew have completed a section of gutter repairs along Newton Street in Maryborough, after completely replacing the gutters in Frederick Street over the past few weeks.

BIN SURVEY

qr.waste.survey.png

The Victorian Government is standardising household waste and recycling services across the state.

This means that all Victorian council waste services will move to a four-stream system.

To help us prepare for the transition, we’re inviting residents to share their feedback on waste. Those who complete the survey enter the draw to win 1 of 125 Transfer Station Golden Vouchers.

This will help us roll out the service that best meets the needs of our community.

Meet with us at Talbot Farmers Market (Sundays: 18 May and 15 June) and Dunolly Country Market (Sundays: 27 April and 22 June) to discuss what you think is the best waste system for our Shire, or complete our online survey at:

 www.engage.cgoldshire.vic.gov.au/waste
