Permits - vehicle, road and works related

1. Overview

Permits are required for any works impacting on Central Goldfields Shire Council assets including the road reserve.

Council Permits (excluding B Double Permits) can be applied for using the application form.(PDF, 151KB)

Permit applications should be submitted 7 to 10 days before starting works.  Late applications may delay your projects.

2. Vehicle Crossover Permits

A vehicle crossover is the link between your drive and the road.

The installation and maintenance of the crossover is the property owners’ responsibility. If you wish to put a new crossover in, or change an existing one, you need a permit from Council to do so. 

 All crossovers must:

  • have a permit before works start;
  • be built to Council standards; and
  • be inspected before any concrete is poured.

Crossovers must be built according to specifications:

  • Urban residential - SD240
  • Urban industrial – SD250
  • Rural – SD255

3. Consent for Works Permit - Excavation

A Permit is required to dig up any section of Council road or footpath. Council assets must be restored to their previous condition at the end of any works.  

To do so, a Consent for Works Permit must be obtained - the Consent for Works Permit is also known as a 'Road Opening Permit'.

If the works are on a Regional Roads Victoria (VicRoads) road, you will need their authorisation. Visit VicRoads, call into a VicRoads office or call 13 11 71.

4. Road Occupation Permits

If you need to partly or completely block off a road or footpath for a period of time, you will need a Road Occupation Permit.

A General Road Occupation Permit is for general use such as events, markets and parades. .

A Construction Road Occupation Permit is for construction, scaffolding, fencing, hoarding or redevelopment.

5. Landscaping and Street Tree Planting Permits

If you are planning to do any landscaping on a road reserve or are required to plant or replace a street tree you will need a Landscaping and Street Tree Planting Permit.

6. B Double Permits

All permit applications for B Double and Higher Mass Limit vehicle use on Council’s local roads are to be sent to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
